Dive in one last time this Christmas to support the Mercy Kids & Teens Appeal.
One last time…..This is the Final Year!! So let’s make a massive effort!! Every Christmas Day, for the last 10 years, the friends and family of Carrigaline teenager Danny Crowley, have gathered on Myrtleville Beach to brave the cold waters of the Atlantic for the annual Danny Crowley Christmas Swim.
Over the years the family and friends of Danny have gathered on Myrtleville Beach every Christmas morning for a quick dip.
As we did last year, we are taking a hybrid approach. Any time between December 17th and December 25th we are asking you to take a dip in memory of Danny, or join the family & friends of Danny and a smaller crew on Myrtleville beach at 10.30am Christmas morning.
REGISTER NOW: You MUST register for the swim this year, no fee is requested. We just need to know how many will be taking part. To register visit https://www.mercyhospitalfoundation.ie/dannycrowleyswim-registration/
Fundraising pages can be set up online at https://www.idonate.ie/event/thedannycrowleychristmasswim2022 for family and friends to support or make a one-off donation.
When Danny passed away after a long battle with Leukaemia in 2013, his friends and family set up the Danny Crowley Christmas Swim. This was their way to remember him and at the same time raise funds for the Mercy Kids & Teens Appeal.
Danny’s mom, Majella, is extremely proud of the swim and speaking about the difference these funds can make, Majella said
“The Mercy Paediatric Outreach Oncology Nursing Service (POONS) and the entire team in the Children’s Leukaemia unit provided invaluable support to Daniel and our family when Daniel was undergoing his treatment. They went the extra mile and we all appreciated the huge difference it made. We want to ensure other families can continue to avail of this service.”
Olga Buckley one of our Paediatric Oncology / Haematology CNS in the Mercy University Hospital commented on the POONS service.
“Being able to deliver a home-based option to these children enhances their quality of life and allows for some normalisation of family life during cancer treatment. It also means there is a reduction in hospital admissions and promotes early discharge from the Hospital. We are also able to provide ongoing training and development for the team of Clinical Nurse Specialists so that they can provide expert care to the children through informed research and up to date knowledge.”
