Make Your Mark 2023

14th July All day

Make Your Mark on Cancer 2024 is taking place July 14th!

Make Your Mark 2024, is a 22km sponsored walk held in memory of Mark Prendergast, who sadly lost his battle with Testicular Cancer in June 2012.

Mark enjoyed his life, and although taken too young by cancer he has instilled in family and friends a zest for life and an urge to help other cancer patients and their families. We honour the taken, we admire the survivors, and we support those currently fighting. His motto ‘Look up, not down; look out, not in; look forward, not back’ lives on.” – Fiona Prendergast, Mark’s wife.

Make Tour Mark 2023

Since its inception in 2012, ‘Make Your Mark on Cancer’ has raised more than €500,000. We are so grateful for your support to date. The 22km walk is back on Sunday 14th July 2024 and ends in the Town Hall in Bandon.

Everyone is welcome to join the walk – you can even dress up if you like! We are committed to securing funding to support current, former and future cancer patients and their families at the Mercy Hospital.

Thanks to you, we can help them through this difficult and worrying time. Your support is so important, now more than ever.

Make Your Mark on Cancer: Supporting the New Mercy Cancer CARE Centre

On the 8th August 2022, work began at 9 Dyke Parade. Nearly 2 years on in March 2024 we opened Irelands only psychologist led Cancer CARE Centre. This new €3M facility is open to all cancer patients being treated at MUH and to their families.

Thanks to your generous support the new Cancer Care Centre has opened but now we look towards the future and funding the support services that will help people who go through the door.

People who come to the centre will receive a warm welcome to the heart of the building which we are very proud to share has been named after Make Your Mark on Cancer.  It features the centre’s reception, a library and a large social kitchen with access to the sensory garden. In addition, we are particularly proud that the beautiful group therapy located on the ground floor is named after Mark Prendergast.

People going through cancer and their families will benefit in numerous and important ways form the work that will take place in the centre.  We are so proud of everything we have achieved so far but we’re not finished yet – we need your support to help as many people as possible across our community.

As well as costing over €3 million to develop, it will cost over €300,000 annually to provide support services such as psycho-oncology and our series of workshops to patients to support them during and after their treatment. 100% of these funds will be raised from donations and through the generosity of our supporters participating in a range of events like the Make Your Mark on Cancer Walk.
