17th July 2022
Make Your Mark on Cancer is Back this July 17th!
Make Your Mark on Cancer, is a 22km sponsored walk held in memory of Mark Prendergast, who sadly lost his battle with Testicular Cancer in June 2012. “Mark enjoyed his life, and although taken too young by cancer he has instilled in family and friends a zest for life and an urge to help other cancer patients and their families. We honour the taken, we admire the survivors, and we support those currently fighting. His motto ‘Look up, not down; look out, not in; look forward, not back’ lives on.” – Fiona Prendergast, Mark’s wife.
Since its inception in 2012, ‘Make Your Mark on Cancer’ has raised nearly €370,000. We are so grateful for your support to date.
The 22km walk begins at The Viaduct Inn on Sunday 17th July 2022 and ends in the Town Hall in Bandon. Everyone is welcome to join the walk – you can even dress up if you like!
We are committed to securing funding to support current, former and future cancer patients and their families at the Mercy Hospital. Your support is so important, now more than ever as cancer patients continue to be affected by the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. Thanks to you, we can help them through this difficult and worrying time.
Cancer CARE Centre
For the last number of years, we have been raising funds to develop the Mercy Cancer CARE Centre. Long-awaited planning permission was granted in 2021 to develop the centre at 9 Dyke Parade, close to the Mercy Hospital.
The current building will be transformed into a non-clinical facility to provide a quiet and safe place for patients and families to access an increasingly necessary range of services to support those affected by a cancer diagnosis.
With over €1.6 million raised so far, we have approximately €800,000 left to raise to make this long-held goal a reality for cancer patients at the Mercy. We hope to break ground on this development in July this year.
